Special to the News from Caren Connolly Nov. 4, 2023

Write, revise, reflect and try again. That was the message that award winning authors brought to Winchester students during WFEE’s Authorfest on Oct. 26. Scores of volunteers welcomed 17 presenters to the town’s five elementary schools and the McCall Middle School. In each classroom or auditorium authors talked about how they find inspiration for their work, researching characters and the importance of a willingness to revise constantly.

The message appeared to be well received. A Lincoln Elementary School student stopped by the library the day after Authorfest to share a story he had written with the library media specialist. He told her he was going to improve it because he was inspired by Authorfest presenter Heather Lang. Before I didn’t really care about improving my story, but after Authorfest, I’m excited to make my stories better.” Authorfest is organized and funded by Winchester’s education foundation WFEE with major support from the Winchester Co-operative Bank. Book Ends participates in Authorfest with the creation of a satellite store at Town Hall allowing the whole community to meet the Authorfest presenters.
