Winchester announces 2024 annual town election calendar

The Winchester Town Clerk’s Offices announces the following is the schedule for the March 26 annual town election:

Jan. 2: Nomination papers available at Town Clerk’s office, 8 a.m.

Jan. 22: Year-end Campaign Finance Reports due, 5 p.m. (previous town-wide candidates and ballot question committees with available funds) (MGL 55§18)

Jan. 30: Last day for Incumbent Town Meeting Member to become a candidate for re-election, by giving written notice to the Town Clerk (MGL 53§10); Home Rule Charter Article 2 Section 2-3(b), 5 p.m.

Feb. 2: Last day to obtain nomination papers (MGL 53§9A), 5 p.m.

Feb. 6: Last day to submit nomination papers to Registrars of Voters for certification (MGL 53§7), 5 p.m.

Feb. 20: Last day for Registrars to file nomination papers with Town Clerk (MGL 53§10), 5 p.m.

* Last day for Select Board to give written notice to Town Clerk of exact wording of a Prop 2-1/2 ballot question (MGL 54§42C)

Feb. 22: Last day to object to or withdraw from candidacy (MGL 55B§7), 5 p.m.

Feb. 23: Ballot Position Drawing at Town Clerk’s Office (Charter 7-11(b), 12 p.m.

Feb. 23: Ballot goes to the printer, 1 p.m.

March 16: Deadline to Register to Vote

March 19: Deadline to apply for Vote by Mail ballot 5 p.m.

March 18: Campaign Finance Reports Due (town-wide candidates who have formed a candidate committee for the town election) (MGL 55§18)

March 25: Deadline to apply for Absentee Ballot (MGL 54§89), 12 p.m.

March 26: ANNUAL TOWN ELECTION (Code of By-Laws 3:1) Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Code of By-laws 3§2)

April 26: Campaign Finance Reports Due (town-wide candidates) (MGL 55§18)
